VINTAGE TURKISH POSTAGE STAMP
Out of circulation. Single stamp
40 kurus stamp printed in 1956 by Guzel Sanatlar Matbaasi (Fine Arts Printingpress), Ankara for the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Turkish History Foundation.
The image you see on the stamp is that of Hudavend Hatun Turbesi (Hudavend Hatun Tomb) in Nigde. This is a historical building commissioned by Selcuk Emperor IV. Rükneddin Kılıçarslan for his daughter Hüdavent Hatun. It was built in 1312.
Kurus was worth 100th of a Turkish Lira (TL) before the removal of the 6 zeros from the end to start the new lira. It has been long out of circulation.
