VINTAGE TURKISH POSTAGE STAMP

Out of circulation. Single stamp

25 kurus stamp printed in 1973 by Ticaret Matbaacilik (Merchantile Printing) in Izmir, Turkey. Depicting an Anatolian Shepherd Dog in front of a blue-turquoise background. The 70's was when this breed of animal has been introduced to the West and became popular. Hence it made to the postage stamps of the day. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog, also known as a Karabas (Black Head due to the color of the animals head) is a local specie by some breeders claimed to be living in the region for more than 6,000 years.

Kurus was worth 100th of a Turkish Lira (TL) before the removal of the 6 zeros from the end to start the new lira. It has been long out of circulation.
